Everyone can use a fresh start, a fresh perspective, and what’s so important about January 1st?! If I am being totally honest, I don’t think I’ve ever actually set a goal for the year and stuck to it which is exactly why I am so excited to share my shifted mindset.
There are a few important things I need to tell you before I say anything else. The first is that this shift in mindset was inspired by some pretty incredible creatives. I watched a webinar this week with Lara Casey and it lit my soul on fire for 2019, my goals, and my business... it transformed the way I think about goals! The second thing I need you to know is that I am not sharing this to talk about myself, to bore you with my life, or to glorify myself in any way.... I am sharing this because I believe in the power of O N E. Reading this post might inspire 1 single person and that will make my heart feel full. Reading this might help one person change their mindset for the better and it will be all worth it for me. Because, friends, sharing in this type of platform is not. my. thing... so I’m thankful you’ve read this far and are supporting me in this journey!
Where do you want to be when you are 80? What is going to matter 40 years from now?
Where do you NOT want to be when you are 80? What isn’t going to matter?
Asking these simple questions changed the game for me! As a wife, a mom, a teacher, a photographer... I needed to think about this in order to shape my business for 2019, so that I can use the creative gifts I’ve been given to live this life well while serving my clients in the best way. This caused me to reflect on the WHY behind my business and figure out what I want to say YES to and what I want to say NO to. Many of you saw this post on my instastories as I worked through this process...
In order to be held accountable, here are the goals I created for myself based on the above
I am the worst with this and maybe you can relate. Life is busy, it’s crazy busy with kiddos, it gets crazier with 1 full time job, then 2 full time jobs and I find myself sometimes operating in auto-pilot. Just going through the motions and not being intentional about my time. This has to change in order to be the best version of myself.
My purpose in this is to be more than your photographer... to let you in- share the good, the imperfect, the real sides of my life so that maybe we can connect on a more personal level! Also, I love that my clients put so much thought into their wedding day, so sharing their story is a form of serving them!
I truly believe that the world needs more of this. I hope that I can encourage my husband, my boys, my family, my students, coworkers, clients, and other creatives by lifting them up.
Y’all ...because I struggle with buying stuff I don’t need. I need to say yes to throwing things out that no longer spark JOY (thank you Marie Kondo). Ultimately this goes back to the idea of “will this matter in 40 years?” Sometimes, LESS is MORE.
So, how am I planning to stick to my goals? Constant reminders, asking others for accountability, and constant reflextion of those original questions!
Where do I want to be when I’m 80? Will this matter in 40 years?
If you made it this far, I am so thankful for you and I hope something here has encouraged you for your season of life!
What are your goals for 2019? I’d love to hear from you!
Really good goals! Bravo!!
These are great goals! My goal is to also be more intentional with my time especially when it comes to my family!
"A little more sharing, a little less perfection" absolutely love this. I struggle with wanting everything to be perfect but just have to embrace the struggle and let it go. Great blog, very insightful. Happy 2019 :) I also love the graphics that you made for your blog.
I love this as a goal! This is a great reminder to be intentional both personally and in business.
YESSSS intentional is my WORD! Loving on my peeps priority number 2... Jesus first ;)
